The event will feature a performance by Deanna Witkowski, a renowned pianist, composer, and scholar, followed by a discussion of her biography of jazz legend Mary Lou Williams. Dr. Witkowski has had an illustrious career that spans Brazilian, jazz, classical, and sacred music, and her work is celebrated for its depth and range. Her book, Mary Lou Williams: Music for the Soul (Liturgical Press), was awarded the 2022 ASCAP Foundation Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award and the 2022 Jazz Journalists Association Award for Biography of the Year.
