The Garden District Band is a fluid collection of musicians, but always with drummer David W. Hansen at the center and jazz music at its heart. Hansen started the group in 1994, and since then has performed and recorded in combos ranging from a trio to a hot groove nine. The band performs Hansen’s originals mixed in with traditional and modern jazz tunes, classic standards, and funky New Orleans street beats. The group’s current iteration includes a core trio of Hansen, bassist Brian Quezergue, and impeccable pianist Jordan Baker, who are featured on the group’s 2019 album Upward. That core group is augmented variously by an all-star lineup that has included John Mahoney, Ed Wise, Richard Moten, Jeff Lashway, Michael Pellera, Eduardo Tozzatto, Nobu Ozaki, Chris Sharkey and Tom Hook. The group has recorded ten albums and can be found performing world-wide at festivals, clubs, and private gigs.
