World renowned klezmer violinist, Alicia Svigals accompanied by silent film composer extraordinaire, Donald Sosin on piano will present original music to accompany the Molly Pican silent film. The film, East and West, is a 1923 Austrian comedy. Yiddish theater star, Molly Picon, a feisty New Yorker, goes to a family wedding in Europe and gets into all kinds of mischief, coaxing Yeshiva boys to dance the Shimmy and acting in a fake wedding to a nebbish Talmudic student, which turns out to have serious consequences. Some may remember Molly Picon as Yente in the film version of “Fiddler on the Roof.”
