Located at the foot of Esplanade Avenue, the New Orleans Jazz Museum, located in the Old U.S. Mint, is a national historic landmark that is part of the Louisiana State Museum system.

You can hear great music from some of New Orleans’ best contemporary artists in the state-of-the-art performance venue on the New Orleans Jazz Museum’s third floor. The Museum uses the space for evening programs, solo and small group concerts and special events while the New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park offers daily live music programs for local residents and visitors to the Museum. 7-11pm | When the 8th Annual Improvisations Gala takes place Saturday, December 6, the entire 400 block of Esplanade will be transformed into an incomparable evening themed, “Storyville: Sounds of the Rising Sun”.
The area will come alive with the sights and sounds of the historic red-light district which played a pivotal role in the birthplace of jazz and shaped a new, improvisational style of music. Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kermit Ruffins, James Andrews & the Crescent City All-Stars, Tuba Skinny, Detroit Brooks & the NOLA Jazz Museum Band with the New Orleans Ladies, featuring Rechell Cook, Dane Ruffins, Naydja CoJoe & Sharon Martin, Treme Lafitte Brass Band, and scores of other soon-to-be announced incredible talents will be performing, along with local culture bearers and a surprise multi-Grammy winning R&B artist.
The Improvisations Gala will also include insightful exhibitions, delicious cuisine by Messina’s Catering & Events, craft cocktails, fine wines, Abita beer and more amidst dazzling lighting displays and art scapes.
