Richard "Piano" Scott is an engaging and dynamic traditional jazz pianist, singer, and songwriter who can most often be found in French Quarter clubs, as a solo act or with his lively band. Scott focuses on ragtime, traditional jazz, gospel, blues, marches, and popular songs from the 20th century, as well as his original tunes, like “Painting My Apartment Blue” and “The Sazerac Song.”
A Virginia native, Scott grew up in a musical family and learned piano as a child, then picked up trombone, bass, and tuba in order to play in his school bands. After some time on cruise ships, he finally made it to New Orleans, settling in the Crescent City in 2000 and quickly becoming an essential part of the trad jazz scene. He’s played dinner cruises on the Steamboat Natchez, has worked with the National Park Service, and is a regular at Fritzel’s Jazz Pub on Bourbon Street. He can also be found playing with the Twisty River Band.
