Burris

Described as “a gumbo of music!” - Burris is a roots-rock artist based out of New Orleans, LA. The project mixes soulful vocals with jazz harmonies and funk grooves to create a delicious and unique southern sound. Burris is a nationally touring band fronted by songwriter, Christopher Burris Hochkeppel, accompanied by a rotating cast of some of Louisiana’s finest musicians. Originally from Lafayette, LA, Hochkeppel started his career by playing in venues at the age of 16. During this time he found his passion for performing and collaborating. As Chris moved on to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, he met the original members that would become Burris' rotating cast. This time expanded his knowledge of the music of South Louisiana - and beyond - that he now incorporates into his writing. With modern influences like Wilco, Jason Mraz, and Marc Broussard as well as older influences like the Funky Meters and Blood Sweat and Tears, Burris combines generations of music from all types of genres that will make you want to dance and cry at the same time. The critically acclaimed group has released 2 full length albums, had music featured on Lifetime Network and the Syfy Channel, charted top 150 on the NACC Radio Charts, and has performed at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, French Quarter Fest, Festival International, Bethlehem's Musikfest, 30A Songwriter Fest and more!

Burris’ sophomore album, “Over You” was recorded at the legendary Studio In The Country in Bogalusa, LA with producer/engineer, Chris Finney and had tracks featured on WGNO News with a Twist, Inside New Orleans, and 504 TV, and charted top 150 on NACC Radio Charts.

The latest single from Burris "Waiting for the Parade to Come" is an upbeat carnival jam featuring Ashlin Parker from Trumpet Mafia and local vocalist Renée Gros. The track was recorded at Embassy Studios with recording engineer, Cam Smith, and drops this 2026 carnival season!

Burris was a featured artist and Folk writing contest winner at Pensacola Beach Songwriter Festival with his song “Willow” in 2024, and has successfully placed songs featured on The Syfy Channel, Lifetime Network, and Hallmark channel. Currently Burris is working on his third full length album set to be recorded and released in 2026 through grant awards by Threadheads Cultural Foundation and the Material Institute New Orleans.
